Into the Next Edition
A reported depth went to the hydrographic office, was weighed against everything already known, and appeared in the next edition or did not. Evidence reaches official guidance the same way, and the delay that looks like institutional sloth is mostly the process working.
A finding is not a recommendation, and the distance between them is where most confusion lives. These three keep the two labelled.
A single trial reporting something and a recommending body adopting it are entirely different events, and we never write the first as though it were the second. “A study found” and “guidance now says” are separated here by name and by date, because collapsing them is how one preliminary paper gets sold as a settled position.
Knowing how guidance is made does not put you in a position to apply it, or to decide that a finding not yet adopted should govern your case. Your clinician can see both the guidance and you, which is the combination none of this reading provides.
When something interesting is published and no recommending body has responded to it, we report both facts and neither more firmly than the other. Being first with a finding has no value here. We sell no supplement, hold no affiliate arrangement, and publish no testimonials.
Understanding the lag is not permission to get ahead of it. A finding that guidance has not yet adopted has not been vetted by the people whose job that is, and treating it as actionable because you read it first is the opposite of what this page argues for. Nor is any of it a reason to delay something already recommended to you — guidance that exists was made for exactly your situation, and waiting for a revision is not caution.
Health Notice: What you find here is general education and it goes no further than that. No diagnosis is made, no prescription written, and nothing on these pages stands in for an examination by a qualified physician. Supplements are not a substitute for eating properly or for genuine clinical care. Bring any change you have in mind — something to start, something to stop, an amount to adjust — to your doctor before acting on it, and regard that as compulsory if you take prescription medication or manage an existing condition.

If a recommendation we describe has since been revised, or we have called something adopted when it is not, send the reference. Status errors get corrected in public.
